Located in the Marconi district (in the southern part of Rome), L’Opificio is a center for culture and education: a space for urban regeneration and a laboratory of ideas focused on community.
With a history spanning over a century, the building once housed the nursery, canteen, and infirmary of Mira Lanza, a historic candle and soap manufacturer, and later became the workshop of Ditta Medici, globally known for their marble craftsmanship.
It’s always been a place of care and skills – values that Italiacamp has embraced and reinterpreted to face today’s challenges.
Inside this early 20th-century industrial architecture, authentic treasures are still preserved.
Ancient columns, coats of arms, friezes, and flooring made with rare and now extinct marbles from around the world bear witness to the deep historical connection of this place.
The architectural restoration was designed to enhance this heritage while creating a contemporary venue capable of hosting diverse contributions in a coherent and functional way.
L’Opificio Italiacamp is the Roman hub of Italiacamp’s network – a set of places developed to generate social and economic impact both in Italy and abroad.
These spaces reflect the unique characteristics of their territory, providing development opportunities and meeting the needs of local communities.
It will host the Scuola dell’Umano, an Italiacamp project aiming to define new cultural, educational, and professional practices inspired by a new Humanism capable of addressing the challenges of the 21st century.
